Wasn't Calvin Cooledge from Vermont? You seem to have refined (and improved upon) his knack for expressing thoughts in a few words.

The roots are needed for the riverbank as well, to prevent erosion and limit the silt for those downstream, as undoubtedly the wetlands downstream have been paved over so that the silt is no longer deposited as bottom land for prime farming.

Wow, just watching re-runs of LOST, never watched it on TV....they have those roots by the millions on that island. Maybe they were 'lost' in Vermont!
