The roots are needed for the riverbank as well, to prevent erosion and limit the silt for those downstream, as undoubtedly the wetlands downstream have been paved over so that the silt is no longer deposited as bottom land for prime farming.
Wow, just watching re-runs of LOST, never watched it on TV....they have those roots by the millions on that island. Maybe they were 'lost' in Vermont! See you soon!!!!!
