what do you bring

to a potluck dinner?

when lightning struck and set this place afire

we thought it lost forever.

but like the phoenix it has emerged from the ashes

dressed in summer ivy and wearing its small scars with pride.

was waiting on the kitchen table this morning

imagine the purr of a motor

taking a dive

moments after i took this shot one boy at a time mugged for the camera,

jumping from the rocks into the churning water.

each time i held my breath, waiting for the leaper to resurface.

i'm happy to report they all made it out safe and sound.

photo walk

yesterday i walked with sophie and adam from in-sight photography.

they taught me new tricks to do with my camera,

they taught me to look again at things i've seen a thousand times before,

they shared their enthusiasm and youth and knowledge with

such beauty and grace.

did anyone else participate in the world wide photo walk?

and a pale light taps against the mullioned windows

i'm only repeating what i hear in the barnyard...

this guy's a real turkey

waist deep in day lillies

snared by webs of sunlight

birdman and downeast doing stuff blew in and out of town in the blink of an eye.

but what a happy blink it was.

all the purring kitties in brattleboro hope the bloggers from maine come back soon.

i could be wrong

but i think this might be one of the reasons vermont is called

the green mountain state

in this guest cottage

tucked away in a wooded corner of

the enchanting north hill gardens

suddenly the rain came sheeting down

and the dappled cows bowed with pleasure.

sometimes i'm not the only cat

in the 'hood

i can't thank you enough

for your wonderful comments yesterday.

as each of you shared a 'good thing,' i felt as if yet another gift had been placed on my doorstep.

every day i am moved by the generosity of spirit of this community but yesterday felt as if even the physical distance between us vanished for a moment...

then good things are possible all over the world

we all need them

almost faded.

the memory of separate entrances

do gardeners dream in color?

and when they swim to the surface from the depths of sleep

do they rise through leaves instead of water?

so much depends upon a green wagon

missing from the sunlit yard,

at the teddy bear picnic

everyone dressed in their best behavior

until lela and penn rosen sang a song that

made the bears flip

can we imagine what is desired

in the quick hearts of caged birds?
