in the 1800s this building housed Newfane's jail and its hotel,
the hotel occupied one side, the jail the other.
prisoners received the same food as hotel guests.
some people went out of their way to get locked up.

I would never say this used to be a jail house... Very interesting building.

I think there are some people today who would prefer being locked up than on the street.
