Birdman, the pond is the confluence where the West River gathers before entering the Connecticut River. It's an easy walk from my place. You see an island and a raft and a man on the raft. There is no motor sound, only the night birds (and an occasional car) so I think he might move the raft by foot pedals though I'm not certain.
So my eyes were not playing tricks. I had visions of a man pedalling a piano raft down the lake with burning poles on all four corners. Very wonderful, I agree.
I suspect that you yanked up the ISO rating to something like 3200 to let in more light. If you had a tripod you could have kept the rating to about 400/800 and let the shutter speed do all the work. It probably would have stayed open for 6 to 8 seconds.
This is what I did with my puddle for the Night Theme earler this week.
But having said that, you would not have achieved this dreamy watercolour image ...

Dreamy picture !! Beautiful !
It looks like a dreamy watercolor painting. . .
A dream of a dream..From the hazy pink a melody is coming up, like if the ghost of a pianist was playing among the sweet waves of the water...
Hi Brattcat - very interesting...and it's easy to see why you were so enthralled with this scene...
What is that out on the water?
My eyes ain't so good anymore!
i do believe you had a magical moment...
Sometimes, the quality is not so important. This is one of those times.
When I embiggened the photo, I thought it looked like someone pedaling a bicycle and pushing a raft of some sort. Then I thought, "Nah...."
But, you're probably right.
Self-propelled houseboat, maybe?
What pond do we have here? What's that in the water? a boat? raft? island?

Magic!
Wish I was there to feel the atmosphere! Awesome!

Sometimes the imperfection of the picture adds to the beauty of it... well done!
Incredible and beautiful, I like the shot as is.
So it is a man. Amazingly beautiful, serene and at the same time eerie atmosphere.
The color is amazing here and I love the Robinson Caruso-like story that goes with it.
found your site via My Birds Blog. I live in the White Mtns. Love the colors of this sunset. Beautiful.
This is soooo magical. I really like it. Good work!
