unfortunately he didn't notice the embracing arms of another tree downhill,
waiting to catch the girdled tree in its limbs.

Really, a beaver did that?! Think of all that gnawing . . .and no reward.
Hmm. Maybe a bit too perfectly cut for a beaver's teeth. Since this is about felling a tree, it reminds of the old carpenter's saying: measure twice and saw once.
It almost looks like a sculpture of a balancing pencil out there in wilderness Brattcat!
Ah well, the best-laid plans of beavers and men often go awry... but it sure is a neat photo!
I've seen beaver dams but never this. Great find!
