The second pictures is showing a pattern which is looking like an arrow, turned to east: direction to where spring is coming from!
The path will be easy to find once the zigzag has melted away.

Subtle and interesting. The top one looks like pussy-willow trying to bud through snow, the second like a close-up of herringbone fabric.
Making tracks means moving right along. Spring will come!
How did the zig zag form? It's very unusual.
