I have never had a discussion about opera and literature with the check out clerks in a supermarket. The reading material on display in the checkout line somehow never causes me to think of opera or literature, although I certainly never talk about the headlines on the tabloids and gossip magazines, either.
Whoopie pies? Is that anything like whoopie cushions? I'd love to talk about the finer points of the Ring Cycle while bouncing on and off little pillows that made fart noises.
One cat prowls around small town Vermont.

Ah... small country stores, a piece of Americana.

You made me think of a wonderful little country store I stopped at when I was on a road trip in Vermont about 15 years ago.
Don't you just love the 'corner store'. MB
