This old house Thursday: four red pillows

the view is of open meadow
with a verge of trees leading up to a distant host of hazy-blue mountains

Just a wonderful composition. This must be the back of the house that looks out over that gorgeous view you described.

I like the staircase, too, but it's the pillows that makes it! Love red!

Actually, Jacob, this is the front of the house. The door is just out of the shot to the left.

Lovely composition and porch too!

There is nothing more inviting than a front porch and wicker, with lovely red pillows. Charming picture.

It has already been said, but I agree: Your photo has a wonderful composition, and it looks so pretty and welcoming.
The red pillows are also very nice and ad a little extra color in the photograph.

The setting on the porch is most inviting, BC. Not just the red of the cushions, but also the seats and the pot of marigolds. What is the halo do you think? Is that a soccer ball I spy?

Is that what we call weatherboard and you call clapboard?

The red pillow on the wicker furniture really make this a standout photo.

Thanks, everyone. Julie, we frequently decorate with wreaths on and in our houses. When we bought our current house we found about seven in various locations, one very similar to this 'halo' you refer to. I'm not certain that was a soccer ball but you are most observant to notice it. The ball was part of what made the shot for me. And yes, that is clapboard. Vinyl siding can be seen on some houses up here in New England but many people still prefer real wood siding, despite the work of upkeep.

Nice contrast with red on white makes for an appealing shot.

The porch is so welcoming, and the four red cushions attract the eyes. They give the picture its soul, like a final special touch.

A romantic afternoon...listening Chopin ... an awesome view and that tree, the same tree stands since we were kids and played with our friends around this lovely garden.
The pillows were not red in that time but the atmosphere full of good energies, friendship and love are the same!

Just a thought inspired by your post my sweet Brattcat!
God bless you
Léia

Those patches of red are the key for this fine composition.

Beautiful! I want to be there! It was 91 degrees today here in SC and 100% humidity.

I want a cool porch in the fall. So cool that you reach for the red pillows.

I forwarded your blog to my friend at http://vintagesimplehome.blogspot.com/

You might enjoy her site. And I told her she could use a little of your red!

I really like the way you composed this old house picture. Just like Jacob, the stairs caught my eye but it is the red pillows that keep me in the picture. This is a porch I could spend some quality time on.

I read your comment with the photo and kept wanting to turn around and see the scene you described. Nice shot of the red pillows.

I left this response to your question about the envelope.

Most of the things I had sent to Mrs. and Mr. Davis were returned to me after they had both passed on. They had no children. They did have a lot of good friends and the friends were those who knew them the longest and were concerned about them the most. Anyway, the property was sold and the money used in a trust fund in their name and things like my letters and photos were sorted out and returned to me. I was thankful to get to see some of it again.
