annual strolling of the heifers: after the parade

This is the last set from a wonderful event.

This boy might be dreaming about next year's event,
but in fact he was eating cotton candy
and had fallen into some sort of
sugar-induced reverie

using local spinach,
this young chef prepared a dip as we watched...
we got to sample it when she was finished
yummmm
how patiently this sheep endured shearing

Thank you for this series that is a slice of small town Americana. Whenever I hear the word "heifers" I am reminded of a situation about 20 years ago in which a man in an office had a practice of referring to the women in the office as "heifers." This did not happen in any company where I worked. He faced a sexual harassment charge based in part on his heifers comments. I suspect that broke him of that obnoxious habit.

Very nice. You have really let us see a part of life that is not found everywhere. I love the milk sticker. Thanks.

Lovely images, the kids portraits are great, but my favourite is the the last one with the poor sheep enduring a very public shearing.
Be prepared, tomorrow I'll post our kind of fair!

cute first photo. i saw a fast sheep shearer in New Zealand and it was unbelievable how fast he could shear.

This is a delightful portait of a most physically delicate boy. I bet his energy belied this structure!

I wonder, did the boy have "I like VT cheddar" on his other cheek?

Great series of photos and the event looks like it was a lot of fun. We make fun of things like that in the city, but only because we are a little jealous:)

I had never heard of this event before you began posting your photos, but I am truly impressed. It is a wonderful community activity which seems to bring people together for lots of good, clean fun!

Thanks much!
