I really struggle with trying to this in a proactive manner. It is really only at the end of the journey that one can stop, turn around and see when one has been. Life is lived in such small chunks it is often very difficult to see any significance to each tiny piece.
Can we do anything but...? I enjoy reading 'signs of the times' posted in windows, placards and storefronts and such. They tell us so much about ourselves.

So true! And as Julie noted, it's so difficult to comprehend or to ascertain the consequences of our decisions at the time we make them...
I suppose that's why growing up in a home that values learning and freedom can be so important.
