Old First Church, Bennington, Vermont

Clueless in Boston wondered about this church,
painted in shades of gray and white.
It remains as remembered,
a place of dove colors and tidy prayer boxes.

Robert Frost came to Vermont in the 1920s.
He sought a better place to farm, especially to grow apples.
In Vermont he remained for four decades.
His ashes rest in the churchyard of the Old First Church.

Very nice! Is it a b&w photo or not?

Many angles captured here... subtle colors too!

Thanks, JM. It is a black and white but basically the only thing that changes in this shot from the color original is the green in the windows from the leaves of trees outside.

That's a superb capture!
Some churches in particular make one feel really good just at stepping in...
Thanks for sharing and for your nice comments on Luna's blog.
God bless you!

A peaceful little nook with powerful vertical lines. Interesting focus on RF. How far is Bennington from Brattleboro? Any chance on a visit to his farm?

Old First Church says it all - Frost, New England, Congregationalism ... very well done, Brattcat...

Dontcha just love that pipe organ?

I see there are stained-glass windows. I'll be they're beautiful with the light streaming in.

...Just saying...you don't have to take a color photo or anything...just saying...

;-)

Thanks for posting this lovely church. It was one of the most powerful images I remembered from a visit to Bennington about 20 years ago. I think it might be time for a return visit this summer... Have a great weekend.

I am not a B&W lover, but this is just perfect.

The quiet atmosphere of this church scrams New England.

I tried to answer our question about the size of cactus and their flowers on Julie's Scottsdale Daily Photo today, in her absence.

I love this monochromatic view - what restful and eye-catching shapes and lighting.

It looks like a peaceful and beautiful church. And interesting information about Robert Frost, thank you.

I love old pipe organs. This one, being predominantly silver, fits beautifully with the grey and white surroundings. Great pic!
