the evaporator is a hungry beast.

it eats wood continuously, its mouth glows red hot.
feed me, it demands.
this is the evaporator's pantry.

That's a lot of food for the hungry monster!

It's so interesting to see the long way the golden syrup takes before arriving on our lips ...

Well said and portrayed. The "evaporator" has something to do with maple syrup? Or is it your big wooden stove? :) My grandma had one of those and it ate lots of wood, too!

So the syrup comes from trees but it takes other trees to turn it into the golden treat we all love so much.

I wouldn't mind having that in the fireplace I don't have...

I wouldn't want to have to chop up all that wood.

There is something cosmic about burning the trees' wood to heat the evaporator to make syrup from the sap from the trees, but I can't put my finger on it.

I've watched them work. A labor of love for sure. Gotta love a woodstove fire too.

As it turns out, inanimate objects have human cravings too :^)

This is tres interesting Brattcat, I've never really thought before of how syrup is made exactly, have really enjoyed it with toast and butter though :) I'm guessing this is a once a year happening? Or is it produced all year round.

It's the beginning of a poem/story:
'The evaporator is a hungry beast. . .'
