Oh, Brattcat, this post warms my heart with its subtle reference to Frost's "Birches," one of my very favorites in his vast collection of poems. A friend of mine had this poem read at his wedding and I read excerpts of it at his funeral. All the associations I have with this poem makes my heart sing!
"When I see birches bend to left and right Across the lines of straighter darker trees, I like to think some boy’s been swinging them...."
Thank you for this photo and lovely lift to this day!
I wish I could be a swinger of birches. Too old now! :-) But I love what Sharon said about so many people having swung on the branches of Frost's poems. So I will content myself with that. You've captured lovely layers from foreground to background of flora getting ready to rest, having taken off her garments for winter. I love your alliteration in the description today, too! Kim
I like Frost, especially the way he covers everything in white... oh wait, that's Jack. Well, I like Robert too :^) Birch trees are beautiful, they rock... back and forth.

kate, it gives me joy to know i've brought you some pleasure on this saturday morning.
Oh yes, this time of year my thoughts travel to Frost's words too. They ring so true. LOVE Birches... the poem and the trees.
HI BC, love your posts. Birches are so wonderful and iconic. You manage to find the most wonderful details in Brattleboro.
I've always loved birches. We have some trees here that look like them but are not. Too bad. I guess it's too hot here in the summer.
Frost came to my mind, too . . . think how many people have swung on the branches of his poems . . . xx
Gosh, I am feeling awfully ill read today. Frost did not come to mind.
So many shades of grey in this image Brattcat, and no it didn't make me think of '50 Shades of Grey' haha!

Beautiful photo and thankyou Kate for the poem. I discovered Frost quite late in life and didn't know this one.
