afterimage

these brittle branches won't survive the vermont winter.
fragile limbs stretch across the strange autumn sky, savoring the bittersweet taste of their last season.
they are like the afterimage of lightning.

Indeed, the black flash! Really? They will snap when turned brittle by the cold? Brrrrr ...

The colours and the varying thickness of the black make this a most satisfying image, BC.

I like the lightning comparison, it's so real and fitting. The colors (practically only yellow) are stunning. Great image.

The ghost of a tree in its final fight against seasons and time, trying to catch the last rays of light , as a last caress ,before leaving..

... and yet, lit like this, these branches also hint at hope that after the winter is over they will be green and beautiful again.

I think a lot of things snap or break or explode when they get cold. We have had large trees that exploded when the sap was up and the tree froze. It splits the trunk wide open.
