Sugaring Series 6

The state of Vermont provides maple syrup makers with this little box of standards. The color of the freshly made syrup is matched against these samples. The new batch is then graded accordingly from 'Fancy' (lightest, most delicate) to 'Grade B' (dark and strong).

Let me take this moment to thank you all for your thoughtful comments on this blog, your wonderful support, your charming humor, and your own amazing blogs which delight, inform and engage me every day.

"Grade A medium amber" is my personal choice at the moment. What's yours, Brattcat?

I'm anticipating the pancake or waffle picture to really get me salivating.

Your "sugaring" series is a fantastic photo essay . . . thank you.

A photographic essay is just what you have produced: and a very fine one at that. I knew little about the process; just enjoyed the end product. Stories of people producing things delight me. I like the way in which you weave image and text. Thank you.

Nice series on maple sugaring. As I may have mentioned, VT maple syrup is my favorite and I'm pleased to see the state has quality standards. I've always gotten high quality syrup from all the vendors I've bought from, so I usually base my choice upon price.
