built in the sixteenth century, this house held us in its stone palms for a week

By modern standards, this house has a lack of windows. I would be interested to see how they handle the lighting inside to compensate.

'Stone palms' is both a comparison and a contrast. Reminds me of parenting styles.

Hahahaha! I liked Julie's comment today. Good memory for me... yet 'painful'. Kitty, I'm mesmerized by your second shot.

This house is a feast for the eyes.

The thickness of the walls gives you a safe solid feeling.

Oh, Brattcat, this is heaven! Reminds me of previous homes in the UK - particularly the Welsh cottage - with those thick walls and small windows. How to keep the place cool in summer and warm in winter. Very sensible. Bliss. My sort of house for sure. How wonderful to have spent time here with Baby Brattcat.

How cool is that? Just love how nicely the modern fits into the old.

Thank you for adding the interior photo. I was curious about the inside.

It is such a contrast to the stucco homes that are typical where we live in Arizona. Anyone with an axe could hack through the exterior walls.

I used to love houses like this. Now I want more light... I'm getting older I guess. Still, I would have enjoyed this immensely and am glad you stayed there.

Julie has a point here, but I am sure this was a great experience...

Talk about a charming, English countryside with stone cottage! Like a picture-book.

I bet that you hated to leave this place!

So charming and solid. It beckons. But, as cieldequimper says, these days I crave more light.

Lovely place. I fell in love with Oxford as soon as I saw it. The oldest town full of youngest inhabitants.
Great you are back.
It was the warmest surprise to see you and Mr. Brattcat in Jilly's blog
