I tried to translate or define Nebelschweif but several sources came up with nothing. Do you know what it means? All I got was, "My sone, it is a Nebelschweif.
Now to your photo, it has a ghostly feeling to it or if one were in a different mode, a romantic feeling.
nice poem, jacob. thank you. i think arija's comment refers to a poem in which there is a line roughly translated as "my son, there is a trail of fog." beautiful (and sad) reference, arija. ceil, i suspect there are a number of places in vermont that resemble scotland. thanks, birdman. if only i could paint with words the way your lovely e. paints with colors. thanks, kate, for your kind words and you get a check plus for effort. thanks, tanya. it's always great to hear from you.
Your words and photos are carefully selected and beautifully paired. While others need a paragraph, your frugal application satisfies (better than a small square of fine dark chocolate)
Whoah! You have certainly waxed poetic while I was away - such a beautiful painterly image and beautiful lines to match, as always. I can see those ghost horses galloping . . .
One cat prowls around small town Vermont.

" mein Sohn, es ist ein Nebelschweif" the first thought that came into my head . . .
If I didn't know better, I would think this was in Scotland.
You paint with words today.

Aha! This must be it: Nebelstreif {m} [geh.]
wisp of fog
what a magical scene!
It's a mystery,
this scene you paint,
With graveled road
abreast a watery grave,
where mist arises
to flow so slow
to where the earth began.

An eerie title going along with the beautiful image and matching perfectly!
God bless you!

I think early morning is a lovely time. Wish I could get myself out of bed.
This does look like a trail of dust left by galloping ghost riders in the sky.
Absolutely great shot. These are hard to come by. Really impressive. Lucky you and us for you showing it.
I detect natures power in your photo -- barbara'
Could you be the Arwen of some Aragorn to be able to make appear such horses?..
A beautiful mist filled scene that has inspired poetry and poetic thoughts. Wonderful.
A magic place and a mysterious atmosphere...
I wouldn't have seen this as ghost horses. Another reminder that I was not cut out to be a poet.
Magique ma chère amie. J'adore.

Morning or evening? There is a sense of calm. Soon the sky will fill with a deeper color.
