I love the idea of children playing outside the senior center! Mixing generations is important; both can learn so much from one another. No, I never learned; my nose was usually in a book. Perhaps I should learn now, but so much to read, so far to travel, so little time!!
Julie and I did buy a little chess set in Cuzco, Peru. It features the Incas against Conquistadores, with little silver trimmings on the Incas and silver hats on the Conquistadores.
I play, but only infrequently. I bought a regulation size wooden chessboard a few years ago when my boys were younger to teach them. I also gave them a portable (roll up) version to take to camp with them too. Great sport for kids to play.
These must be smart kids. It is not an easy game to play. A comforting sight, actually, young friends playing chess (certainly beats the XBox...) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Lots of things going on in the alleys and on the sidewalks of Brattleboro!
Do I play chess? Ha, ha, ha. I had a chess set once, made of onyx. It was purely decoration. Now that I think of it, I wonder where the darn thing went!
Checkers is more my style. Or Solitaire.
Better yet, golf!
I'll bet those kids dropped off the grandparents at the Senior Center and then decided to sprain their brains.
I do know how to play, but chess just never grabbed me. It seemed too slow, though I know that some people play fast chess with a timer. Probably the real reason was that I already had a reputation as too brainy, and I didn't need any more baggage to scare away the pretty but less brainy girls . . .
I have not played chess since yesterday... but the kind of chess I play is in highway traffic, trying to get in the best position to reach my final destination on time :^)
I used to play often with my Dad before he passed away, haven't played since which is a shame, it's such a good challenge. It's so great to see young people here playing Brattcat, a game that's good for the brain!
One cat prowls around small town Vermont.

I only play checkers ("jouer aux dames");Like Kate, I prefer a book!
I don't play the game but, I admire these youngsters for taking it up. It takes a lot of thought.
. . .poorly . . .

Looks like a nice little tournament! My son likes to play, but I really dread when he asks me!
I haven't played in many years, I wonder if I'd still remember all the rules. Looks like a nice relaxing afternoon.

I did, when I was young, which is a lot of time ago. But I never was much good at it...
When you find a Candyland tournament let me know. hahaha
Haven't in years & wasn't ever good. I like that these kids were outside a senior center, concentrating hard...
Many of the six-somethings (6-yr-olds) here play the game. I have had to brush up on my game... I do much better at Chutes and Ladders - hah!

Two of the three boys are very engaged. One might prefer his XBox. I gave up chess after high school. Never was any good.

I learned but it's not my cup of tea...
I would like to learn how to play chess, looks so good!
