first to toronto in august

if anyone has suggestions as to how the brattcats might best savor any of these places

please let me know.

 enter the house on thin legs

 gaze wide eyed at the small black piano

 mingle their perfume with the aroma of baked oats and honey

a rotation of performers and audiences.

each week presents new dishes for the ear and the eye to savor.

and always the roar of bikes and trucks making their way through town,

adding a rumbling, grumbling dimension to the show,

like another instrument.

because it's so hot

i've moved my computer from the sweltering attic to the first floor.

because i attended an exuberant production of godspell last night

i couldn't settle down to sleep.

because i couldn't sleep i went downstairs to work on my computer at 4 a.m.

because it's summer and we live in a drafty old house,

 a weary bat took a wrong turn and found its way in but couldn't find its way back out again.

flap, flap, flap, went the frantic bat, all around the room.

poor bat. poor brattcat. 

we'll both be napping through another hot day.

people danced all around him,

and yet he sat, in his own world,

oblivious, drawing, drawing, drawing.

mr. brattcat has installed lights in our side garden.

they collect sunlight throughout the day

and sparkle like fallen bits of stars at night.
