bird song

 birdwatchers
move so quietly in their search...
always listening,
eyes seeking the sudden rush of feather,
the soft breast swelling with song.

I've often thought of seriously taking up bird watching...but haven't. Good shots.

Love this gathering of shots . . .

I read an essay recently, I think in The Times, about why the author thought that hearing was much more important than vision. He or she noted that we can close our eyes but not our ears. The images here are gorgeous but the sound of the birds can surround us with rapture.

Don't you love the sound of birds chirping in the early hours of the day?

Yesterday I had a quail hop up on the window sill to peer in at me as I sat in my library checking my favorite Daily photo blogs.

Beautiful birds. I love that second shot in particular.

Interesting to read Bob's comment. I had a blind friend who always said he was so grateful he could hear - that he's much prefer to be blind than deaf.

These are so lovely, just the silhouette is enough. And I love cedar waxwings(?).
