is this an ancient ruin?

musicians, poets, and pretenders,
all have passed this way.
lightning struck the stone steeple,
leaving a blackened scar.
no one prays here anymore...
unless you count the girl in her peasant skirt longing
for an invitation to dance.

the church, main street, brattleboro

I recall this church. You've captured it well.

I agree with Birdman, this picture is very artistic, I like a lot those stones, the texture and your choice for b&w, really beautiful.

You could have fooled me and you beautifully captured this bit of antiquity close to home

A beautiful postcard! Love the caption.

Happy Monday. :)

It very well could be an ancient ruin Brattcat, to someone who knows no better, like me. Your picture from yesterdays post is so gorgeous and mellow, lovely rural scene.

Great site for a Shakespeare play!
I really enjoyed your father and grandfather explanation on the red barn paint!

Beautiful detail and love the black and white . . . brattcat goes where others cannot or do not . . .

Interesting capture---and the words go well with it.

Hopefully my computer is up and running for awhile.

Love the father's day pic. MB

Some ghosts, some shadows, and even maybe some fairies surely go on to enjoy this peaceful place..

Churches can be as solemn as graveyards. Like this one.

I'm looking for the girl in that peasant skirt.

If there was a rose here, I would say it is a setting for Ronsard.

I want to climb through that gap and explore the other side.

Wonderfully evocative image. It has an Old World feel to it. Oh, and yes, I had too much silliness for Father's Day, hence the ridiculous post for the day :^)

Top shelf, brattcat. It works in black and white, and the poem suits it. Well done!

I don't think there are any ancient ruins in America made by people of European ancestry. The image is beautiful nonetheless.
