Walmart used to sell these fake owls in the hunting department. I would only put them out if they attracted other birds. A big old horned owl or even a hoot owl would scare them away and wreck the atmosphere for the chipmunks.
Poor thing up there in the snow with nary a nest to keep him warm!
In Miramar, Florida, at a middle school where I taught, a vice-principal put up a bunch of fake owls on various places of the roof to keep away the pigeons.
The morning after he had done this I saw a pigeon sitting atop one of the owls!
As vice-principals go, he wasn't the sharpest pencil in the drawer!
One cat prowls around small town Vermont.

It really seems to be wearing a mask!!or is it me obsessed with Carnival?....
This is remarkable. In Arizona people put fake owls up on their roofs, but I am not sure what types of critters they are supposed to scare away.
A message from Hogwarts, maybe?

We put an owl on the dock to discourage seagulls from making it their bathroom.
I've seen owls used to keep the pigeons away. I don't know if it really works.
Fun capture -- perfect prose to go with it.

Has that "wise old owl" been instructive to you in any way?

Oh no, there she is! I've been looking for Hedwig for ages!
These always catch my eye. There used to be one in a top window in Gorham. Haunting at night, shadows and all.
I noticed the hook in its head. Could be lovely pendent on strong neck.
Feels so good to be back).
That should scare the cat, at least for a few seconds.
Terrific shot. If the owl spotted the groundhog coming out of its hole winter would go on forever.
I think it's all about wisdom! :)

I'd like one of these! Maybe two...
What a dramatic photo with the owl against the background.
