Weston, Vermont--closing the door

some memories we carry away with us as we close the door and move on.
but some memories remain behind, clinging to the surfaces we touched,
adrift in the vacant air.

Thank you all for your kind birthday greetings.
It was a splendid day.

there were five grandsons in my family
when the doctor told my mother, "it's a girl!"
"you're lying," my mother said.

This Old Jail House

in the 1800s this building housed Newfane's jail and its hotel,
the hotel occupied one side, the jail the other.
prisoners received the same food as hotel guests.
some people went out of their way to get locked up.

back from NYC

nothing like a still pond
after the jangly, larger than life, sensual overload of the big city
new york was great!
but it's good to be home.

twilight in an overgrown field

who knows what conversations might have been had here,
what secrets shared,
what dreams begun,
or ended.

Through the doorway

in a tiny mall
with a tailor shop and a restaurant
the glass door on an open studio invites passersby to gaze in and
watch artists at work.

Brattstock- Red Heart the Ticker

From noon until five
half hour sets
blues to reggae
crowds of towheads and dredlocks and not-so-much locks.
This duet took third place recently on a Prairie Home Companion competition.
Every performance on Saturday was smokin'.

This Old House Thursday: Western Avenue beauty

The lines of this house
strike just the right balance between interest and contentment, don't they?

Thank you Malyss of the beautiful Chronicles From the Shore
for bestowing an "I Love Your Blog" Award on the very shy but delighted Brattcat.

Pisgah State Park, New Hampshire

Eight friends went hiking around Kilburn Pond yesterday.
The mosquitoes were insatiable.
But the pleasure of conversation and the beauty of the trail
helped us transcend the discomfort of the welts rising on our skin.
(apologies for the poor quality of this shot. i was scratching and shooting at the same time.)

Night view from a train

Each window of this train station
(I think New Haven, Ct. but please correct me if I'm wrong)
glowed with topaz light.
Happy Theme Day everyone.
And THANK YOU for your comments.
Your words are so welcome and dear to me.
